Gait Abnormality
This problem with walking is caused by disease or abnormality in:
- The central nervous system
- The spinal cord
- A vestibular disorder
- Peripheral nerve disease
- Degenerative muscle disease
- Neurodegenerative illness
- Skeletal diseases
- Foot conditions
Gait abnormality typically results from dysfunction of the nervous and/or musculoskeletal system. Pediatric physiatrists and physical therapists provide evaluations and treatment plans for the management of a gait abnormality. Often referrals to an orthopedist are also recommended to evaluate the underlying bony structures.
