BALTIMORE, MD (April 29)- Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital (MWPH) is celebrating five “Top Nurses”, who were recognized by Baltimore magazine in its 2021 Excellence in Nursing awards. The nurses being honored are Heather Dewan, Yaffa Elefant, Agnes Ihediohamma, Erica Jones and Colleen Neidig.

Denise Pudinski, MWPH’s Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive, noted, “The Top Nurses that were selected at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital represent the many nursing roles across the organization. Yaffa Elefant and Agnes Ihediohamma provide direct patient care. Erica Jones serves as Director of Infection Prevention. Heather Dewan is MWPH’s Clinical Applications Manager. Colleen Neidig is Nurse Manager for our unit at UM Capital Region Medical Center.”

Pudinski added, “Our nurses were selected because of their tireless dedication to our mission of maximizing the health and independence of the children we serve. They have been pillars in their departments and in the organization during this difficult and ongoing pandemic. We are honored that Baltimore has the opportunity to learn about the great work of the nurses at MWPH.”

Hundreds of nurse nominations were collected and, of those, 105 were chosen in 19 nursing specialties as tops in the region—the metro Baltimore area is home to about 20,000 nurses. The nurses will be celebrated in a virtual ceremony on May 6 and are featured in Baltimore magazine's May issue. Rachel Reid, MWPH Director of Clinical Services, served as a member of the advisory committee for the Excellence in Nursing awards.

“We are not at all surprised that so many of our nurses are being recognized as Baltimore's “Top Nurses,” said Sheldon Stein, President and CEO of MWPH. “Our nurses are remarkable, and they are caring and skilled clinical staff. These amazing nurses work in a variety of areas throughout MWPH, which truly demonstrates the diverse expertise of our nurses.”
