Financial Information

Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled visit to allow time for us to process your insurance and billing information.

• Current health insurance card
• Picture identification (e.g., driver's license) of parent or guardian
• Referral or prescription from a doctor, (MD or DO) if attending a rehabilitation therapy appointment.
• Referral and/or authorization forms (if required by your insurance company). It is your responsibility to obtain a referral from your pediatrician.
• If any forms were mailed to you, please bring the completed forms to your appointment.
• Co-payment (two separate co-payments may be required: one for the physician and one for the hospital)

Every insurance plan is different. Contact your insurance company or your employer before you come to MWPH to find out about your child's coverage. Find out whether our doctors and therapists are considered to be in-network. Your insurance company's phone number is listed on your insurance card.

Even if Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital is in-network for your insurance plan, your insurance company might not consider all services here to be in-network. For example, you may need to go somewhere else for laboratory, x-ray, mental health or other services that are "carved out" from coverage at MWPH. In addition, some insurance companies use a separate insurance company for mental health. Your insurance card may list a phone number specifically for mental health (psychology and/or psychiatry) coverage.

It may be difficult to predict how much your child's services will cost at MWPH, because the cost will depend on the specific care your child needs at the time of service. Many children receive a combination of services at MWPH. For example, your visit might include services from both a doctor and a psychologist. It is important to note that each service will be charged separately.

Please view a list of approximate charges for our services. All hospital rates are set by the State of Maryland and cannot be changed by MWPH.

It is important that you understand how much of your costs insurance will likely pay, and how much you will have to pay. Your insurance company's member services phone line or your employee benefits office can help you with these questions. It is each family's responsibility to understand its benefits and its financial responsibility.

Many health insurance plans have deductibles. Until you meet this deductible, you will have to pay for most or all of your child's health care expenses.

Co-payments are due at the time of your visit. You may have two co-payments if you see a doctor or nurse practitioner here: one for the doctor or nurse practitioner; and one for the other hospital staff and resources used during your visit.

Co-insurance and deductible amounts will be billed to you after your claims have been processed by your insurance company. After your insurance pays its portion, you will be responsible for any balance due.

You may pay co-payments and other charges by cash, personal check, traveler's check, or credit card. We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover.

You may owe two separate co-payments, and receive two separate bills, for outpatient services at MWPH, depending on the services your child received here.

• All patients receive a hospital bill (#1 below)
• Those who see a doctor or nurse practitioner will also receive a professional services bill (#2 below)

1. Hospital Outpatient Services Bill - Statement
   
   You may receive a Hospital Outpatient Services bill from Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital. This bill covers nursing services as well as other hospital resources.
   
   Services that you may see on this bill include:
   • Psychology
   • Rehabilitation
   • Nutritional Counseling
   • X-Rays
   • Laboratory tests
   • Other Tests or Procedures
     
     
2. Physician Services Bill
   
   You may receive this bill when your child is seen by a doctor or nurse practitioner at MWPH. This bill will be from Mt. Washington Physicians, and it will say "Statement of Account" on the top. This bill will include all services that are provided by your doctor or nurse practitioner (for example, medical visit, or review and interpretation of diagnostic tests).

Inpatient Bills

If your child is admitted to the hospital for inpatient care, you may also receive two bills for the stay. The hospital inpatient bill includes charges for your child's room, x-rays, medications, medical supplies, tests, and procedures. You may also receive a separate professional bill for physician and nurse practitioner services.

If you are concerned about paying the self-pay portion of your child's care, you have the right to apply to Mt. Washington for patient financial assistance. We provide full assistance to families at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines; partial assistance to families with incomes up to 300% of the federal poverty guidelines; and assistance on a case-by-case basis to families with incomes above the 300% level.
